Local Residents are delighted as the evacuation of the first mountains of flood waste has started in Wandre, an important first step in the disposal of the thousands of tonnes of flood-related waste left from the catastrophic flooding that struck following torrential rains in July 2021.
The worst affected Belgian areas were in Liège Province and the provinces of Namur and Luxembourg, with Belgian Minister of Home Affairs Annelies Verlinden describing the events as “one of the greatest natural disasters our country has ever known.”
In the coming weeks no less than 135,000 tons will be loaded onto barges and transferred via waterway from one of EIT’s main terminals.
Euroports welcome the authorities’ decision to opt for river evacuation of waste, a strong signal for the promotion of more eco-friendly logistics, with one barge being equivalent to 100-150 trucks.
Monaco Resources Group, shareholder of Euroports, is proud of the Belgian employee’s effort to support the recovery.
